Can somebody tell we what has hapened in blackest night?

I would like to know the story of blackest night and everything that has happened up to this point I was trying to find the deadpool cover variant for siege 3. But in order to get that you have to send 50 blackest night covers to get it. I called around and everyone has said that blackest night was to popular to send 50 covers. Why is this story so popular and what has happened up to date Im pretty sure wiki could tell me but not about why its so popular.
